The Basics

As agents of Calor, we do not own any of the cylinders we give out, and neither do our customers. When your cylinder runs out we will swap it for a new full one, and depending on if the cylinder is propane or butane we will then either refill the empty in our Lerwick depot or send it away to be filled on the mainland. When you own a cylinder you have an agreement with Calor for its use.

Calor charges a one-off hire agreement fee for every cylinder they give out. This agreement and sale is between you and Calor - we are simply acting as an agent. Depending on the size of cylinder you require, this payment will range from £49.99 to £69.99. After this one-time payment has been made, you will never need to pay it again - only the refill price - for as long as you retain the cylinder or any subsequently filled ones.

We offer a weekly cylinder delivery service to the whole of mainland Shetland, as well as some islands. The charge for cylinder delivery is £5.00 on top of the cylinder refill price.

Cylinder Refill Agreement for first time purchases

A Cylinder Refill Agreement will cost between £49.99 and £69.99 depending on which cylinder you need. This price goes straight to Calor - it is a set price we cannot modify. After this one-off payment, in future you will only need to pay for refilling the cylinder. This hire agreement does not expire nor does it ever have to be renewed: it will last for as long as you retain the cylinder or any subsequently filled ones. This means that if you have moved into a house that already has Calor cylinders, or have come into possession of a Calor cylinder, you do not need to get a hire agreement form and can simply pay for a refill. Please note that this only applies to Calor gas cylinders. We are forbidden by law to refill any non-Calor cylinders, and cannot purchase nor take any other cylinders.

For a hire agreement, we require you to fill out a form: this can either be completed by you coming into our showroom, over the phone, or if you buy a hire agreement form online we’ll have all the necessary details to fill it out. This form requires simple information like your name, address, postcode and email. We will then send your form to Calor, who will send you your refill agreement form. It’s important to keep this safe, as retaining it allows you to get a percentage of your hire fee back if you return the cylinder along with the agreement.

Our gas delivery service

We deliver gas every week to every part of mainland Shetland, with services available for delivering to all isles. Our dedicated delivery vehicle and other fleet means we can regularly deliver gas to your home. As soon as you have purchased a hire agreement and cylinder from us, you are eligible to have gas delivered and connected straight to your home. Our delivery charge is £5.00 on top of the price of the cylinder.

Deliveries can be booked by either phoning us or ordering online. We don’t need much information: just your name, address and which type of cylinder you need. If we haven’t delivered to you before, we might also need instructions for finding your house. We can then accept payment up the phone, or by cash or cheque to the driver.

Our delivery times

We deliver to Lerwick on Monday, Wednesday on Friday. We deliver to the South Mainland (including Fair Isle) on a Tuesday. We deliver to the West Mainland (including Foula and Papa Stour) on a Wednesday. We deliver to the North Mainland on a Thursday.
